DO
The Do is a target area and can be struck to either the left or right hand side. the target are is the solid part of the DO rather than the leather portion.
Parts of the DO.
Mune Chickawa - Thgese are the leather loops on the top of the Do. It is through these that the do himo are tied when donning the armour.
Do Chickawa - These are the 4 leather loops at the side of the do. The Do himo are atached to these.
Do Kawa - This is the hard shell of the do, and the sides are the target areas for a do strike. This is the area that allows for a great deal of personalisation in kendo armour. Colours vary from the traditional Black through sharkskin grey, to neon greens and reds.
Mune - this is the leather upper portion of the DO. It covers the chest area. The Mune used to be a valid target but has been withdrawn.
Do Himo - These are the strings that loop from chikawa to chikawa to hold the DO in place upon your body. There are two lengths. The shorter length is for the lower do chikawa, and the longer attaches to the upper Do chikawa.
The himo of the lower of the two Do Chikawa tie together. The longer himo attached to the upper Do chikawa loop behind and accross you when wearing and faster to the mune chikawa.
