Equipment

To practice kendo in an authentic and safe way there is a variety of equipment needed. As a beginner the club will provide what you need, but we would like you (and you will probably want) to purchase your own over time.

Kendo is an activity with high initial cost, however the equipment you buy should last a long time.

To quote Paul (secretary) 10/01/2007 " I've had my set of armour for over 5 years and its still going strong.  As a beginner I was loaned a club set of armour until I saved enough to buy my own. My Bokken is the one I was given by a friend in my second week of training."

Despite Pauls claims,  all equipment will wear out over time, some faster than others. Shinai (fencing sword) and the palm part of a Kote (gloves) are the most common things to wear out.
