Below is the format used in previous gradings. If it has changed or more(or less) is expected I will update this page.

If you are not yet in Bogu, you can still grade, however you will not be able to grade higher than 6th Kyu.

FUNDAMENTALS WITH BOKUTO  (all grades)

How to stand: shizen-tai
How to bow: ritsu-rei
Courtesy in kendo: rei-ho
How to sit: sei-za
How to bow: za-rei
How to compose yourself: mokuso
How to squat: sonkyo

How to make stance and posture: chudan no-kamae
How to move forward, back, right and left: in kamae using suri-ashi

UchiKomiGeiko

Kakarate only : -

A more experienced person in Bogu will recieve UchiKomiGeiko. As Kakarate you will be expected to be familiar with the drill.

You must

  • Recognise openings
  • Have good Kiai (preferably more than one cut in one breath)
  • Move with good ASHI-SABAKI
  • Have awareness of activity and of receiver.

KiriKaeshi

Kakarate only version:-

 

A more experienced person in Bogu will receive Kiri Kaeshi. As Kakarate you will be expected to be familiar with the drill.

You must

  • Perform the sequence correctly.
  • Have good Kiai (preferably more than one cut in one breath)
  • Move with good ASHI-SABAKI 
  • Have awareness of activity and of receiver

Kakarate and Motodachi version:-

  

 In Pairs you will perform Kiri Kaeshi.

 

As Kakarate you will be expected to be familiar with the drill.

You must

  • Perform the sequence correctly and amoothly.
  • Have good Kiai (preferably more than one cut in one breath)
  • Move with good ASHI-SABAKI 
  • Have awareness of activity and of receiver

As Motodachi you will be expected to be familiar with the drill.

You must

  • Recieve the sequence correctly.
  • Move with good ASHI-SABAKI 
  • Have awareness of activity and of cutter
  • MAintain a good distance

JiGeiko

If you have any steam left after performing all that above you will be put into pairs for Jigeiko.

You must

  • maintain good spirit
  • Clean cutting
  • Good footwork
