Step back to To-ma-ai (long distance)
Seme into issoku-itto-no-ma-ai.

Your opponent will either open slightly or provide resistance. If they decide to hold centre then you force them to open (harai - suriage).
Strikes a clean straight SHOMEN.
At this point there is tai-atari (body clash). It may be either received gently and they will move backwards allowing you to keep momentum, or use it as an exercise in control of the collision by providing resistance.
When attacking use okuri-ashifoot movement
When moving forwards you must
- first cut your opponents right side (45 degree cut at most)
- then left side
- then right side
- then left side
Now moving backward:
- Cut to their right side
- left side
- right side
- left side
- then finally to thier right side
Continue moving backwards until he you reached the distance just outside of issoku-itto-no-ma-ai.
When you are both in chudan-no-kamae then repeat the exercise once more.
When you are both back in issoku-itto-no-ma-ai once more perform a staight cut to shomen and move through turn and be ready to go again.
Finish.

- Make the left and right strokes at an angle of about 45 degrees, beginning with a strike to opponents left side of men.
- Finish with a straight men strike aftertaking sufficient ma-ai, then repeat the exercise.
- Beginners must practice correctly with slow big movements rather than with speed.
- Always end with a strike to the left side of your opponents men.
- Always keep your body upright and straight with your chin in towards your chest.
Make your movements as large as possible.
