Kakari-Geiko
In Kakari-geiko, kakarate creates an opening and follows through with a cut. Motodachi only allows correct attacks to pass, and fends off those that are incorrect, weak or ill timed.
Kakarate has no fear of attack from Motodachi so they can concetrate upon their waza and attain the feeling of a good attack.
Kakari-geiko is often used as a stamina exercise, as Motodachi states a time (say 30 seconds) and then Kakarate has to attack constanly within the time, performing as many GOOD cuts as they can within the time and in one breath.
The speed an severity can be adapted to suit each kakarates needs.
An adaptaion of this practice is Hikitate-geiko. This is effectively the same as Kakari-geiko but motodachi becomes kakarate too. i.e. both kendoka attack without fending off each others attacks.
There is an opportunity for the instructor to teach, as they may fend off attacks if the students attacks seem poor.
---> point for Motodachi. This is not a time for showing off and blocking and cutting freely. You must be honest in your attacks and judge your timing and speed to help kakarate. Afetr all that is the point of these execises... to help your kakarate. <---
